I like to go through a series of sketches with clients prior to starting with colour and these are dropped into the template supplied by the client. I created a couple of character options for the main cover.
FINAL ARTWORK
The mine entrance became a place holder for the card elements (gems, gold amd dynamite)
Hand drawn lettering - very happy the client allowed me to create the title using hand drawn typography rather than using a font. Hand lettering gives a unique and original feel to a product.
Initially I struggled to get the gems (especially the diamond) to really jump off the white background of the card - however by having a dark background (the inside of the mine), they really pop!
The client liked both characters and we were able to the skinny guy fo rthe cover and the other guy was featured on the cards
Finally, I was delighted to hear HASBRO have started crediting their artists on the packaging - thank you!
