The Head
Acrylic on linen - 26 cm diameter
This circular painting treats the head as a mask or symbol rather than a portrait. I am interested in the gap between the inward self and the versions of that self encountered by others. The circular format and linen surface give the work an object-like presence, distinct from that of a traditional rectangular painting.
Part of an ongoing studio practice rooted in folk tales, pattern and decorative traditions.
